Ch 9Verse 30
Adhyāya 9 Shloka 30

अपि चेत्सुदुराचारो भजते मामनन्यभाक् | साधुरेव स मन्तव्यः सम्यग्व्यवसितो हि सः || ३० ||

api cet su-durācāro bhajate mām ananya-bhāk | sādhur eva sa mantavyaḥ samyag vyavasito hi saḥ || 30 ||

"Even if one commits the most abominable action, if he is engaged in devotional service he is to be considered saintly because he is properly situated in his determination."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna delivers one of the most radical, merciful statements in the entire text. He says: Even if (api cet) a person is of exceedingly bad conduct or commits the most abominable, horrific actions (su-durācāro), but they worship and serve Me (bhajate mām) with exclusive, undivided devotion (ananya-bhāk), that person must absolutely be considered and accepted (mantavyaḥ) as a saintly, righteous person (sādhur eva sa). Why? Because he has completely and properly resolved his intelligence and determination (samyag vyavasito hi saḥ) upon the right path.
