Ch 9Verse 29
Adhyāya 9 Shloka 29

"I envy no one, nor am I partial to anyone. I am equal to all. But whoever renders service unto Me in devotion is a friend, is in Me, and I am also a friend to him."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna addresses the potential accusation that God plays favorites. He declares clearly: I am completely equal and impartial (samo 'haṃ) toward all living beings universally (sarva-bhūteṣu). To Me, no one is inherently hated or detested (na me dveṣyo 'sti), nor is anyone arbitrarily favored or dear (na priyaḥ). However (tu), those individuals who worship and serve Me (ye bhajanti māṃ) with pure devotion and love (bhaktyā), they reside intimately in Me (mayi te), and I simultaneously reside intimately in them (teṣu cāpy aham).
