Ch 9Verse 28
Adhyāya 9 Shloka 28

शुभाशुभफलैरेवं मोक्ष्यसे कर्मबन्धनैः | संन्यासयोगयुक्तात्मा विमुक्तो मामुपैष्यसि || २८ ||

śubhāśubha-phalair evaṃ mokṣyase karma-bandhanaiḥ | sannyāsa-yoga-yuktātmā vimukto mām upaiṣyasi || 28 ||

"In this way you will be freed from bondage to work and its auspicious and inauspicious results. With your mind fixed on Me in this principle of renunciation, you will be liberated and come to Me."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna states the direct, liberating result of performing actions as offerings (from v27). He explains: By acting in this way (evaṃ), you will be completely freed and untied (mokṣyase) from the entangling bondage of all actions (karma-bandhanaiḥ), which normally yield both auspicious/good (śubha) and inauspicious/bad (aśubha) fruits or results (phalair). Having your mind and soul firmly engaged (yuktātmā) in this specific yoga of renunciation (sannyāsa-yoga), you will become perfectly liberated (vimukto) and will ultimately attain Me (mām upaiṣyasi).
