Ch 9Verse 12
Adhyāya 9 Shloka 12

मोघाशा मोघकर्माणो मोघज्ञाना विचेतसः | राक्षसीमासुरीं चैव प्रकृतिं मोहिनीं श्रिताः || १२ ||

moghāśā mogha-karmāṇo mogha-jñānā vicetasaḥ | rākṣasīm āsurīṃ caiva prakṛtiṃ mohinīṃ śritāḥ || 12 ||

"Those who are thus bewildered are attracted by demonic and atheistic views. In that deluded condition, their hopes for liberation, their fruitive activities, and their culture of knowledge are all defeated."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Continuing from the previous verse regarding those who mock Him, Krishna details the devastating consequences of such a disconnected worldview. He describes these individuals as 'vicetasaḥ' (bewildered or lacking true discrimination). Because they have taken shelter (śritāḥ) in a deluding, deceptive material nature (prakṛtiṃ mohinīṃ) characterized by demonic (rākṣasīm) and atheistic/materialistic (āsurīṃ) mindsets, everything they do turns to zero. Their grand hopes and aspirations are baffled (moghāśā), their hard-fought actions and careers are ultimately fruitless (mogha-karmāṇo), and their accumulation of knowledge is rendered vain and useless (mogha-jñānā).
