Adhyāya 8 Shloka 5

अन्तकाले च मामेव स्मरन्मुक्त्वा कलेवरम् | य: प्रयाति स मद्भावं याति नास्त्यत्र संशय: || ५ ||

anta-kāle ca mām eva smaran muktvā kalevaram | yaḥ prayāti sa mad-bhāvaṃ yāti nāsty atra saṃśayaḥ || 5 ||

"And whoever, at the end of his life, quits his body remembering Me alone at once attains My nature. Of this there is no doubt."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna finally answers Arjuna's terrifying question about the exact moment of death. He delivers an absolute, iron-clad guarantee: And whoever (yaḥ), at the very end of time or the final moment of death (anta-kāle ca), departs and quits their physical body (muktvā kalevaram prayāti) while remembering and fixing their mind exclusively on Me alone (mām eva smaran)—that person instantaneously attains and achieves My exact, supreme nature and state of being (sa mad-bhāvaṃ yāti). Of this absolute fact, there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever (nāsty atra saṃśayaḥ).
