Ch 8Verse 2
Adhyāya 8 Shloka 2

"Who is the Lord of sacrifice, and how does He live in the body, O Madhusudana? And how can those engaged in devotional service know You at the time of death?"

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Arjuna completes his list of questions. He asks: Who exactly is the Lord of Sacrifice (adhiyajñaḥ ko), and how does He reside here within this physical body (kathaṃ atra dehe 'smin), O Madhusūdana (Slayer of the Madhu demon)? And finally, the most critical question: At the exact moment of physical departure and death (prayāṇa-kāle ca), how can You be known and remembered (kathaṃ jñeyo 'si) by those who have completely controlled and disciplined their minds (niyatātmabhiḥ)?
