Ch 8Verse 19
Adhyāya 8 Shloka 19

भूतग्राम: स एवायं भूत्वा भूत्वा प्रलीयते | रात्र्यागमेऽवश: पार्थ प्रभवत्यहरागमे || १९ ||

bhūta-grāmaḥ sa evāyaṃ bhūtvā bhūtvā pralīyate | rātry-āgame 'vaśaḥ pārtha prabhavaty ahar-āgame || 19 ||

"Again and again, when Brahma's day arrives, all living entities come into being, and with the arrival of Brahma's night they are helplessly annihilated."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna emphasizes the terrifying, automated repetition of this cosmic trap. He points out: This exact same multitude and collective aggregate of living entities (bhūta-grāmaḥ sa evāyaṃ), being repeatedly born and coming into existence again and again (bhūtvā bhūtvā), is inevitably dissolved and annihilated (pralīyate) at the arrival of the cosmic night (rātry-āgame). Most importantly, they undergo this entire process completely helplessly and without any control (avaśaḥ), O Partha, only to be automatically generated and brought forth again (prabhavati) at the arrival of the cosmic day (ahar-āgame).
