Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna details the mechanics of the cosmic breathing cycle. He states: At the arrival and dawn of Brahma's massive cosmic day (ahar-āgame), absolutely all manifest entities, beings, and forms (vyaktayaḥ sarvāḥ) spring forth and are generated (prabhavanty) from the unmanifest, invisible state (avyaktād). Conversely, at the arrival and onset of his cosmic night (rātry-āgame), they are all dissolved, destroyed, and merged back (pralīyante) into that exact same state known as the unmanifest (tatraivāvyakta-sañjñake).
