Ch 8Verse 16
Adhyāya 8 Shloka 16

आब्रह्मभुवनाल्लोका: पुनरावर्तिनोऽर्जुन | मामुपेत्य तु कौन्तेय पुनर्जन्म न विद्यते || १६ ||

ā-brahma-bhuvanāl lokāḥ punar āvartino 'rjuna | mām upetya tu kaunteya punar janma na vidyate || 16 ||

"From the highest planet in the material world down to the lowest, all are places of misery wherein repeated birth and death take place. But one who attains to My abode, O son of Kunti, never takes birth again."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna systematically dismantles the pursuit of temporary cosmic real estate. He states: From the very highest planetary system in the universe, the realm of the creator Brahma (ā-brahma-bhuvanāl), down to the lowest, all of these worlds and dimensions (lokāḥ) are places of return, subject to repeated birth and death (punar āvartino 'rjuna). However (tu), O son of Kunti (kaunteya), having reached and attained Me (mām upetya), rebirth never again exists (punar janma na vidyate).
