Ch 8Verse 13
Adhyāya 8 Shloka 13

ओमित्येकाक्षरं ब्रह्म व्याहरन्मामनुस्मरन् | य: प्रयाति त्यजन्देहं स याति परमां गतिम् || १३ ||

oṃ ity ekākṣaraṃ brahma vyāharan mām anusmaran | yaḥ prayāti tyajan dehaṃ sa yāti paramāṃ gatim || 13 ||

"After being situated in this yoga practice and vibrating the sacred syllable om, the supreme combination of letters, if one thinks of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and quits his body, he will certainly reach the spiritual planets."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Having established the physical and mental lock in Verse 12, Krishna now reveals the ultimate sonic passcode for the soul's launch. He states: While situated in that state, one must vibrate and utter the sacred syllable 'OM', which is the single-syllable, imperishable representation of Brahman (oṃ ity ekākṣaraṃ brahma vyāharan). Simultaneously, one must constantly remember and fix their consciousness exclusively on Me (mām anusmaran). Whoever departs and quits their physical body in this exact manner (yaḥ prayāti tyajan dehaṃ), that person absolutely attains the supreme, ultimate destination (sa yāti paramāṃ gatim).
