Ch 8Verse 12
Adhyāya 8 Shloka 12

सर्वद्वाराणि संयम्य मनो हृदि निरुध्य च | मूर्ध्न्याधायात्मन: प्राणमास्थितो योगधारणाम् || १२ ||

sarva-dvārāṇi saṃyamya mano hṛdi nirudhya ca | mūrdhny ādhāyātmanaḥ prāṇam āsthito yoga-dhāraṇām || 12 ||

"The yogic situation is that of detachment from all sensual engagements. Closing all the doors of the senses and fixing the mind on the heart and the life air at the top of the head, one establishes himself in yoga."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna delivers the precise physiological and mental mechanics of the exit protocol. He instructs: One must completely close, control, and shut down all the doors and gates of the physical senses (sarva-dvārāṇi saṃyamya). The mind must then be confined, locked, and securely fixed entirely within the heart (mano hṛdi nirudhya ca). Having done this, one must draw up and place their life-force or Prana at the very top of the head, the crown (mūrdhny ādhāyātmanaḥ prāṇam). Operating in this exact state, one is firmly established in the absolute concentration of Yoga (āsthito yoga-dhāraṇām).
