Ch 7Verse 18
Adhyāya 7 Shloka 18

उदारा: सर्व एवैते ज्ञानी त्वात्मैव मे मतम् | आस्थित: स हि युक्तात्मा मामेवानुत्तमां गतिम् || १८ ||

udārāḥ sarva evaite jñānī tv ātmaiva me matam | āsthitaḥ sa hi yuktātmā mām evānuttamāṃ gatim || 18 ||

"All these devotees are undoubtedly magnanimous souls, but he who is situated in knowledge of Me I consider to be just like My own self. Being engaged in My transcendental service, he is sure to attain Me, the highest and most perfect goal."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

To prevent any misunderstanding of Verse 17, Krishna clarifies His love for all seekers. He declares: All of these devotees without exception (sarva evaite) are absolutely noble, magnanimous, and great souls (udārāḥ). However (tu), it is My firm opinion and decree (me matam) that the one in pure knowledge (jñānī) is exactly like My very own Self (ātmaiva). Why? Because that perfectly yoked soul (sa hi yuktātmā) is firmly established and anchored (āsthitaḥ) in Me alone (mām eva), recognizing Me as the absolute highest and most supreme destination (anuttamāṃ gatim).
