Ch 7Verse 17
Adhyāya 7 Shloka 17

तेषां ज्ञानी नित्ययुक्त एकभक्तिर्विशिष्यते | प्रियो हि ज्ञानिनोऽत्यर्थमहं स च मम प्रिय: || १७ ||

teṣāṃ jñānī nitya-yukta eka-bhaktir viśiṣyate | priyo hi jñānino 'ty-artham ahaṃ sa ca mama priyaḥ || 17 ||

"Of these, the one who is in full knowledge and who is always engaged in pure devotional service is the best. For I am very dear to him, and he is dear to Me."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna immediately establishes a hierarchy among the four types of seekers. He declares: Of all these four (teṣāṃ), the one situated in pure knowledge (jñānī) who is constantly and eternally yoked to Me (nitya-yukta) through single-minded, exclusive devotion (eka-bhaktir) is the most distinguished and supreme (viśiṣyate). Why? Because I am exceedingly and infinitely dear (priyo hi aty-artham) to that wise person (jñānino), and furthermore, that person is incredibly dear to Me (sa ca mama priyaḥ).
