बलं बलवतां चाहं कामरागविवर्जितम् | धर्माविरुद्धो भूतेषु कामोऽस्मि भरतर्षभ || ११ ||

balaṃ balavatāṃ cāhaṃ kāma-rāga-vivarjitam | dharmāviruddho bhūteṣu kāmo 'smi bharatarṣabha || 11 ||

"I am the strength of the strong, devoid of passion and desire. I am sex life which is not contrary to religious principles, O Lord of the Bharatas [Arjuna]."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna concludes His identification with the pure essence of all things. He states: I am the power and strength of the strong (balaṃ balavatāṃ cāhaṃ), but specifically that strength which is completely devoid of selfish craving and toxic passion (kāma-rāga-vivarjitam). Furthermore, O best of the Bharatas (bharatarṣabha), in all living beings, I am that desire or sex life (kāmo 'smi bhūteṣu) which is not contrary to or conflicting with Dharma (dharmāviruddho).
