Aligning Consciousness

Ch 6Verse 43
Adhyāya 6 Shloka 43

तत्र तं बुद्धिसंयोगं लभते पौर्वदेहिकम् | यतते च ततो भूय: संसिद्धौ कुरुनन्दन || ४३ ||

tatra taṃ buddhi-saṃyogaṃ labhate paurva-dehikam | yatate ca tato bhūyaḥ saṃsiddhau kuru-nandana || 43 ||

"On taking such a birth, he revives the divine consciousness of his previous life, and he again tries to make further progress in order to achieve complete success, O son of Kuru."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna describes the internal, psychological mechanics of what happens when this soul takes its new birth. In that new body (tatra), the soul immediately regains and revives the connection to the supreme intelligence and consciousness (taṃ buddhi-saṃyogaṃ labhate) that it had acquired and cultivated in its previous physical body (paurva-dehikam). Re-armed with this innate wisdom, the soul then strives and endeavors (yatate ca) even more vigorously than before (tato bhūyaḥ) toward the ultimate perfection of liberation (saṃsiddhau), O beloved child of the Kurus (kuru-nandana).
