Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna details the exact fate of the 'Yoga-bhraṣṭaḥ' (the one who fell from the path of Yoga). After passing away, this person attains the planets or realms of the pious and virtuous (prāpya puṇya-kṛtāṃ lokān). After dwelling and enjoying there for countless, immensely long years (uṣitvā śāśvatīḥ samāḥ), they are reincarnated back on earth. Where do they go? They take their new birth specifically in the house or family (gehe) of those who are pure and righteous (śucīnāṃ) and who are highly prosperous and wealthy (śrīmatāṃ).
