Ch 6Verse 38
Adhyāya 6 Shloka 38

कच्चिन्नोभयविभ्रष्टश्छिन्नाभ्रमिव नश्यति | अप्रतिष्ठो महाबाहो विमूढो ब्रह्मण: पथि || ३८ ||

kaccin nobhaya-vibhraṣṭaś chinnābhram iva naśyati | apratiṣṭho mahā-bāho vimūḍho brahmaṇaḥ pathi || 38 ||

"O mighty-armed Krishna, does not such a man, who is bewildered from the path of transcendence, fall away from both spiritual and material success and perish like a riven cloud, with no position in any sphere?"

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Arjuna paints a vivid, terrifying picture of the failed Yogi's fate. He asks: O mighty-armed one (mahā-bāho), doesn't this person—who is deeply bewildered and has lost their way on the path to the Absolute (vimūḍho brahmaṇaḥ pathi)—become completely derailed and fallen from *both* paths (ubhaya-vibhraṣṭaś)? Having no solid foundation or footing anywhere (apratiṣṭho), doesn't he perish and disappear entirely (naśyati), exactly like a torn, scattered cloud (chinnābhram iva)?
