Ch 6Verse 24
Adhyāya 6 Shloka 24

सङ्कल्पप्रभवान्कामांस्त्यक्त्वा सर्वानशेषत: | मनसैवेन्द्रियग्रामं विनियम्य समन्तत: || २४ ||

saṅkalpa-prabhavān kāmāṃs tyaktvā sarvān aśeṣataḥ | manasaivendriya-grāmaṃ viniyamya samantataḥ || 24 ||

"One should engage oneself in the practice of yoga with determination and faith and not be deviated from the path. One should abandon, without exception, all material desires born of mental speculation and thus control all the senses on all sides by the mind."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

In Verses 24 and 25, Krishna gives the mechanical 'How-To' for executing the determination required in Verse 23. He begins: You must completely abandon and throw away (tyaktvā) all material desires (kāmāṃs) that are born from mental plotting, imagination, and speculation (saṅkalpa-prabhavān). This abandonment must be absolute, leaving zero exceptions or residue (sarvān aśeṣataḥ). Having done this, you must use the mind itself (manasaiva) to completely regulate and lock down the entire network/village of the senses (indriya-grāmaṃ viniyamya) from every possible side and direction (samantataḥ).
