Ch 5Verse 5
Adhyāya 5 Shloka 5

यत्साङ्ख्यै: प्राप्यते स्थानं तद्योगैरपि गम्यते | एकं साङ्ख्यं च योगं च य: पश्यति स पश्यति || ५ ||

yat sāṅkhyaiḥ prāpyate sthānaṃ tad yogair api gamyate | ekaṃ sāṅkhyaṃ ca yogaṃ ca yaḥ paśyati sa paśyati || 5 ||

"One who knows that the position reached by means of analytical study can also be attained by devotional service, and who therefore sees analytical study and devotional service to be on the same level, sees things as they are."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna drives the point of Verse 4 home with absolute finality. He declares: That exact destination or state (yat sthānaṃ) which is obtained by the renouncers/philosophers (sāṅkhyaiḥ prāpyate), that very same destination is reached by the active Karma Yogis (tad yogair api gamyate). Therefore, the one who looks at the path of knowledge (sāṅkhyaṃ) and the path of action (yogaṃ) and sees them as One (ekaṃ yaḥ paśyati)... that person truly sees (sa paśyati).
