Ch 5Verse 16
Adhyāya 5 Shloka 16

ज्ञानेन तु तदज्ञानं येषां नाशितमात्मन: | तेषामादित्यवज्ज्ञानं प्रकाशयति तत्परम् || १६ ||

jñānena tu tad ajñānaṃ yeṣāṃ nāśitam ātmanaḥ | teṣām āditya-vaj jñānaṃ prakāśayati tat param || 16 ||

"When, however, one is enlightened with the knowledge by which nescience is destroyed, then his knowledge reveals everything, as the sun lights up everything in the daytime."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna immediately provides the cure for the dark bewilderment described in Verse 15. He says: However (tu), for those whose ignorance is completely destroyed by the knowledge of the Self (jñānena tad ajñānaṃ yeṣāṃ nāśitam ātmanaḥ), their knowledge acts like the blazing sun (teṣām āditya-vat jñānaṃ). Just as the sun illuminates the entire world at dawn, that supreme knowledge perfectly reveals and illuminates the Supreme Absolute (prakāśayati tat param).
