Ch 4Verse 6
Adhyāya 4 Shloka 6

अजोऽपि सन्नव्ययात्मा भूतानामीश्वरोऽपि सन् | प्रकृतिं स्वामधिष्ठाय सम्भवाम्यात्ममायया || ६ ||

ajo 'pi sann avyayātmā bhūtānām īśvaro 'pi san | prakṛtiṃ svām adhiṣṭhāya sambhavāmy ātma-māyayā || 6 ||

"Although I am unborn and My transcendental body never deteriorates, and although I am the Lord of all living entities, I still appear in every millennium in My original transcendental form by My internal divine energy."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna explains the paradox of His birth. He states three absolute facts about Himself: He is unborn (ajo 'pi san), His nature is imperishable and never deteriorates (avyayātmā), and He is the Supreme Lord of all beings (bhūtānām īśvaro 'pi san). Despite these facts, He still manifests or takes birth (sambhavāmi). How? By establishing control over His own material nature (prakṛtiṃ svām adhiṣṭhāya) and appearing through His own internal mystic potency or illusion (ātma-māyayā).
