Ch 4Verse 36
Adhyāya 4 Shloka 36

अपि चेदसि पापेभ्य: सर्वेभ्य: पापकृत्तम: | सर्वं ज्ञानप्लवेनैव वृजिनं सन्तरिष्यसि || ३६ ||

api ced asi pāpebhyaḥ sarvebhyaḥ pāpa-kṛt-tamaḥ | sarvaṃ jñāna-plavenaiva vṛjinaṃ santariṣyasi || 36 ||

"Even if you are considered to be the most sinful of all sinners, when you are situated in the boat of transcendental knowledge you will be able to cross over the ocean of miseries."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna delivers the ultimate guarantee of grace and redemption. He poses an extreme hypothetical: Even if (api ced) you are (asi) the absolute worst, most sinful among all sinners (pāpebhyaḥ sarvebhyaḥ pāpa-kṛt-tamaḥ). Despite this terrifying karmic debt, you shall cross over entirely (santariṣyasi) this vast ocean of misery and sin (sarvaṃ vṛjinaṃ) by using one specific vehicle: the boat of transcendental knowledge (jñāna-plavenaiva).
