Aligning Consciousness

Ch 4Verse 23
Adhyāya 4 Shloka 23

गतसङ्गस्य मुक्तस्य ज्ञानावस्थितचेतस: | यज्ञायाचरत: कर्म समग्रं प्रविलीयते || २३ ||

gata-saṅgasya muktasya jñānāvasthita-cetasaḥ | yajñāyācarataḥ karma samagraṃ pravilīyate || 23 ||

"The work of a man who is unattached to the modes of material nature and who is fully situated in transcendental knowledge merges entirely into transcendence."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna describes the absolute dissolution of karma for the awakened master. For one whose attachments have completely vanished (gata-saṅgasya), who is fully liberated (muktasya), and whose consciousness is firmly anchored and established in pure knowledge (jñānāvasthita-cetasaḥ), every action they perform is done strictly as a sacrifice for the Supreme (yajñāyācarataḥ karma). Because of this, their entire karmic footprint, all reactions, and the work itself melts away, dissolves, and is completely annihilated (samagraṃ pravilīyate).
