Aligning Consciousness

Ch 3Verse 7
Adhyāya 3 Shloka 7

यस्त्विन्द्रियाणि मनसा नियम्यारभतेऽर्जुन | कर्मेन्द्रियै: कर्मयोगमसक्त: स विशिष्यते || ७ ||

yas tv indriyāṇi manasā niyamyārabhate 'rjuna | karmendriyaiḥ karma-yogam asaktaḥ sa viśiṣyate || 7 ||

"On the other hand, if a sincere person tries to control the active senses by the mind and begins karma-yoga (in Krishna consciousness) without attachment, he is by far superior."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna immediately contrasts the hypocrite (Verse 6) with the genuine practitioner. He states, 'yas tu' (on the other hand), a person who uses their mind to regulate their senses (indriyāṇi manasā niyamya) and then engages their organs of action (karmendriyaiḥ) in Karma Yoga, remaining completely unattached (asaktaḥ)—that person is vastly superior (sa viśiṣyate).
