Ch 3Verse 41
Adhyāya 3 Shloka 41

तस्मात्त्वमिन्द्रियाण्यादौ नियम्य भरतर्षभ | पाप्मानं प्रजहि ह्येनं ज्ञानविज्ञाननाशनम् || ४१ ||

tasmāt tvam indriyāṇy ādau niyamya bharatarṣabha | pāpmānaṃ prajahi hy enaṃ jñāna-vijñāna-nāśanam || 41 ||

"Therefore, O Arjuna, best of the Bharatas, in the very beginning curb this great symbol of sin [lust] by regulating the senses, and slay this destroyer of knowledge and self-realization."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Knowing the enemy's location, Krishna issues the tactical strike order. He says 'tasmāt' (therefore), O best of the Bharatas. In the very beginning (ādau), you must regulate and control the senses (indriyāṇy niyamya). By cutting off the entry point, you must forcefully strike down and slay (prajahi hy enaṃ) this great sinful enemy (pāpmānaṃ). Why? Because if left unchecked, it is the ultimate destroyer (nāśanam) of both theoretical knowledge (jñāna) and realized wisdom (vijñāna).
