इन्द्रियस्येन्द्रियस्यार्थे रागद्वेषौ व्यवस्थितौ | तयोर्न वशमागच्छेत्तौ ह्यस्य परिपन्थिनौ || ३४ ||

indriyasyendriyasyārthe rāga-dveṣau vyavasthitau | tayor na vaśam āgacchet tau hy asya paripanthinau || 34 ||

"There are principles to regulate attachment and aversion pertaining to the senses and their objects. One should not come under the control of such attachment and aversion, because they are stumbling blocks on the path of self-realization."

The Direct Meaning

Krishna returns to the mechanics of the senses. He states that for every sense (indriyasya) and its corresponding sense object (arthe), there is a pre-programmed, systematic presence of attachment (rāga) and aversion (dveṣau). Krishna issues a strict command: One must not come under their control (tayor na vaśam āgacchet). Why? Because these two forces are 'paripanthinau'—highwaymen, bandits, or ambushers who block the spiritual path.
