Ch 3Verse 31
Adhyāya 3 Shloka 31

ये मे मतमिदं नित्यमनुतिष्ठन्ति मानवा: | श्रद्धावन्तोऽनसूयन्तो मुच्यन्ते तेऽपि कर्मभि: || ३१ ||

ye me matam idaṃ nityam anutiṣṭhanti mānavāḥ | śraddhāvanto 'nasūyanto mucyante te 'pi karmabhiḥ || 31 ||

"Those persons who execute their duties according to My injunctions and who follow this teaching faithfully, without envy, become free from the bondage of fruitive actions."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna states the universal applicability of his doctrine. He declares that any human beings (mānavāḥ) who constantly practice and follow (nityam anutiṣṭhanti) this teaching or philosophy of Mine (me matam idaṃ) will achieve liberation. However, he provides two strict psychological prerequisites for the student: they must be full of faith (śraddhāvanto) and completely free from envy or cynicism (anasūyantaḥ). Those who meet these conditions are definitively freed from the bondage of karma (mucyante te 'pi karmabhiḥ).
