Ch 2Verse 67
Adhyāya 2 Shloka 67

इन्द्रियाणां हि चरतां यन्मनोऽनुविधीयते | तदस्य हरति प्रज्ञां वायुर्नावमिवाम्भसि || ६७ ||

indriyāṇāṃ hi caratāṃ yan mano 'nuvidhīyate | tad asya harati prajñāṃ vāyur nāvam ivāmbhasi || 67 ||

"As a strong wind sweeps away a boat on the water, even one of the roaming senses on which the mind focuses can carry away a man's intelligence."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

To illustrate exactly *why* an undisciplined mind fails to achieve peace (as stated in Verse 66), Krishna provides a terrifying and beautiful metaphor. He says that among the roaming senses (indriyāṇāṃ hi caratāṃ), if the mind yields to and follows even *one* of them (yan mano 'nuvidhīyate), that single sense will sweep away the person's entire intellect and wisdom (tad asya harati prajñāṃ). He compares it to a gale-force wind (vāyur) sweeping a boat (nāvam) off its course on the water (ambhasi).
