Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna expands on the equanimity of the sage. This person is 'sarvatra anabhisnehaḥ'—without affection/attachment anywhere or to anything. When they inevitably encounter various situations, whether favorable and auspicious (śubham) or unfavorable and inauspicious (aśubham), they do not rejoice and praise the good (nābhinandati), nor do they hate and despise the bad (na dveṣṭi). A person who operates like this has their wisdom firmly established (tasya prajñā pratiṣṭhitā).
