Ch 2Verse 51
Adhyāya 2 Shloka 51

कर्मजं बुद्धियुक्ता हि फलं त्यक्त्वा मनीषिण: | जन्मबन्धविनिर्मुक्ता: पदं गच्छन्त्यनामयम् || ५१ ||

karma-jaṃ buddhi-yuktā hi phalaṃ tyaktvā manīṣiṇaḥ | janma-bandha-vinirmuktāḥ padaṃ gacchanty anāmayam || 51 ||

"By thus engaging in devotional service to the Lord, great sages or devotees free themselves from the results of work in the material world. In this way they become free from the cycle of birth and death and attain the state beyond all miseries."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna outlines the ultimate trajectory of the Karma Yogi. The wise (manīṣiṇaḥ), who are united with pure intellect (buddhi-yuktā), permanently discard the fruits born of action (karma-jaṃ phalaṃ tyaktvā). By doing this consistently, they are completely liberated from the bondage of birth and death (janma-bandha-vinirmuktāḥ). Consequently, they attain a state or destination (padaṃ) that is 'anāmayam'—completely free from all disease, suffering, and misery.
