Ch 2Verse 32
Adhyāya 2 Shloka 32

यदृच्छया चोपपन्नं स्वर्गद्वारमपावृतम् | सुखिन: क्षत्रिया: पार्थ लभन्ते युद्धमीदृशम् || ३२ ||

yadṛcchayā copapannaṃ svarga-dvāram apāvṛtam | sukhinaḥ kṣatriyāḥ pārtha labhante yuddham īdṛśam || 32 ||

"O Partha, happy are the Kshatriyas to whom such fighting opportunities come unsought, opening for them the doors of the heavenly planets."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna continues to appeal to Arjuna's warrior nature. He says that this specific war is a massive, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It came 'yadṛcchayā' (by its own accord/unsought). The Pandavas didn't start the war; it was forced upon them by Duryodhana's tyranny. For a warrior, fighting a righteous, defensive war is seen as an open door to heaven (svarga-dvāram apāvṛtam). Therefore, Kshatriyas who get such an opportunity should consider themselves lucky (sukhinaḥ).
