Ch 2Verse 3
Adhyāya 2 Shloka 3

क्लैब्यं मा स्म गमः पार्थ नैतत्त्वय्युपपद्यते | क्षुद्रं हृदयदौर्बल्यं त्यक्त्वोत्तिष्ठ परन्तप || ३ ||

klaibyaṃ mā sma gamaḥ pārtha naitat tvayy upapadyate | kṣudraṃ hṛdaya-daurbalyaṃ tyaktvottiṣṭha paran-tapa || 3 ||

"O son of Pritha, do not yield to this degrading impotence. It does not become you. Give up such petty weakness of heart and arise, O chastiser of the enemy."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna intensifies his rebuke. He uses a shockingly strong word: 'klaibyam' (impotence, unmanliness, or utter loss of vigor). He tells Arjuna that this behavior is completely out of character ('naitat tvayy upapadyate'). He diagnoses Arjuna's grand philosophical arguments as nothing more than 'kṣudraṃ hṛdaya-daurbalyaṃ'—a petty, wretched weakness of the heart. He commands him to stand up.
