"Some look on the soul as amazing, some describe him as amazing, and some hear of him as amazing, while others, even after hearing about him, cannot understand him at all."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna acknowledges the profound difficulty of the teaching he just delivered. He uses the word 'āścarya-vat' (like a wonder/amazing) repeatedly. The nature of the soul—unborn, eternal, invisible, and indestructible—defies all normal human logic. Some people experience a flash of this reality and are struck with awe; some try to speak about it and sound mystical; some hear about it and are fascinated. Yet, despite all the seeing, speaking, and hearing, almost no one truly comprehends it (veda na caiva kaścit).
