Ch 2Verse 17
Adhyāya 2 Shloka 17

अविनाशि तु तद्विद्धि येन सर्वमिदं ततम् | विनाशमव्ययस्यास्य न कश्चित्कर्तुमर्हति || १७ ||

avināśi tu tad viddhi yena sarvam idaṃ tatam | vināśam avyayasyāsya na kaścit kartum arhati || 17 ||

"That which pervades the entire body you should know to be indestructible. No one is able to destroy that imperishable soul."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Having established the difference between the temporary and the eternal, Krishna now clearly identifies what the eternal (Sat) actually is. He says that the element which 'pervades the entire body' (yena sarvam idaṃ tatam) is indestructible (avināśi). He emphatically states that absolutely no one, and no weapon, has the power to cause the destruction (vināśam) of this imperishable entity.
