Ch 18Verse 71
Adhyāya 18 Shloka 71

श्रद्धावाननसूयश्च शृणुयादपि यो नरः | सोऽपि मुक्तः शुभाँल्लोकान्प्राप्नुयात्पुण्यकर्मणाम् || ७१ ||

śraddhāvān anasūyaś ca śṛṇuyād api yo naraḥ | so 'pi muktaḥ śubhāḻ lokān prāpnuyāt puṇya-karmaṇām || 71 ||

"And one who listens with faith and without envy becomes free from sinful reactions and attains to the auspicious planets where the pious dwell."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna lowers the barrier to entry so that no one is excluded. Even if a person does not actively teach or rigorously study, if they simply listen (śṛṇuyād api yo naraḥ) to the Gita, they achieve massive spiritual benefits. The only requirements are that they must listen with faith (śraddhāvān) and completely without envy (anasūyaś ca). Such a person is instantly freed from karmic sins (so 'pi muktaḥ) and attains the highly auspicious, elevated planetary systems where the pious reside (śubhāḻ lokān prāpnuyāt puṇya-karmaṇām).
