Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna concludes His formal philosophical presentation. He tells Arjuna that He has just explained knowledge (jñānam ākhyātaṁ) that is more secret and confidential than all other secrets (guhyād guhyataraṁ mayā). He then gives Arjuna an ultimate directive regarding free will: 'Ponder and deliberate over all of this completely and entirely (vimṛśyaitad aśeṣeṇa), and then, whatever you wish to do, do that (yathecchasi tathā kuru).'
