Aligning Consciousness

Ch 18Verse 55
Adhyāya 18 Shloka 55

भक्त्या मामभिजानाति यावान्यश्चास्मि तत्त्वतः | ततो मां तत्त्वतो ज्ञात्वा विशते तदनन्तरम् || ५५ ||

bhaktyā mām abhijānāti yāvān yaś cāsmi tattvataḥ | tato māṁ tattvato jñātvā viśate tad-anantaram || 55 ||

"One can understand Me as I am, as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, only by devotional service. And when one is in full consciousness of Me by such devotion, he can enter into the kingdom of God."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna delivers the ultimate key to understanding Him. He emphatically declares that He can be truly known and understood exactly as He is in reality (yāvān yaś cāsmi tattvataḥ)—only by one method: 'Bhaktyā' (through pure devotional service). Once a person knows Him in truth through this loving devotion (tato māṁ tattvato jñātvā), they are granted entry into His supreme spiritual kingdom (viśate tad-anantaram).
