Adhyāya 18 Shloka 45

स्वे स्वे कर्मण्यभिरतः संसिद्धिं लभते नरः | स्वकर्मनिरतः सिद्धिं यथा विन्दति तच्छृणु || ४५ ||

sve sve karmaṇy abhirataḥ saṁsiddhiṁ labhate naraḥ | sva-karma-nirataḥ siddhiṁ yathā vindati tac chṛṇu || 45 ||

"By following his qualities of work, every man can become perfect. Now please hear from Me how this can be done."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Having defined the four natural divisions of work, Krishna states a profound spiritual truth. Every single person (naraḥ), by being devoted and steadily engaged in their own specific natural work (sve sve karmaṇy abhirataḥ), can attain the ultimate perfection of life (saṁsiddhiṁ labhate). He then invites Arjuna to hear exactly how this perfection is achieved (yathā vindati tac chṛṇu) while performing one's prescribed duties.
