Ch 18Verse 46
Adhyāya 18 Shloka 46

यतः प्रवृत्तिर्भूतानां येन सर्वमिदं ततम् | स्वकर्मणा तमभ्यर्च्य सिद्धिं विन्दति मानवः || ४६ ||

yataḥ pravṛttir bhūtānāṁ yena sarvam idaṁ tatam | sva-karmaṇā tam abhyarcya siddhiṁ vindati mānavaḥ || 46 ||

"By worship of the Lord, who is the source of all beings and who is all-pervading, a man can attain perfection through performing his own work."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

This verse reveals the 'how'. How does a mundane job become perfection? By recognizing the Supreme Lord—who is the source/origin of all living beings (yataḥ pravṛttir bhūtānāṁ) and by whom this entire universe is pervaded (yena sarvam idaṁ tatam). A human being (mānavaḥ) attains perfection (siddhiṁ vindati) when they use their own natural work as an act of worship (sva-karmaṇā tam abhyarcya) dedicated to that Supreme Lord.
