Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna defines knowledge in the mode of goodness (sāttvikam jñānaṁ). It is the specific type of perception (īkṣate) through which a person sees a single, eternal, undivided spiritual reality (ekaṁ bhāvam avyayam) existing equally within all the diverse, separated living entities (sarva-bhūteṣu). It is the ability to see the undivided truth amidst the divided forms (avibhaktaṁ vibhakteṣu).
