Ch 18Verse 10
Adhyāya 18 Shloka 10

न द्वेष्ट्यकुशलं कर्म कुशले नानुषज्जते | त्यागी सत्त्वसमाविष्टो मेधावी छिन्नसंशयः || १० ||

na dveṣṭy akuśalaṁ karma kuśale nānuṣajjate | tyāgī sattva-samāviṣṭo medhāvī chinna-saṁśayaḥ || 10 ||

"The intelligent renouncer situated in the mode of goodness, neither hateful of inauspicious work nor attached to auspicious work, has no doubts about work."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna describes the behavioral symptoms of a person who has achieved this Sattvic renunciation (sattva-samāviṣṭo). This intelligent renouncer (medhāvī) exhibits radical neutrality. They do not harbor hatred or resentment toward disagreeable, menial, or inauspicious work (na dveṣṭy akuśalaṁ karma), nor do they become overly attached to or proud of agreeable, highly auspicious work (kuśale nānuṣajjate). Because their ego is removed from the equation, all their doubts regarding what to do are completely slashed (chinna-saṁśayaḥ).
