Ch 16Verse 8
Adhyāya 16 Shloka 8

असत्यमप्रतिष्ठं ते जगदाहुरनीश्वरम् | अपरस्परसम्भूतं किमन्यत्कामहैतुकम् || ८ ||

asatyam apratiṣṭhaṁ te jagad āhur anīśvaram | aparaspara-sambhūtaṁ kim anyat kāma-haitukam || 8 ||

"They say that this world is unreal, with no foundation, no God in control. They say it is produced of sex desire and has no cause other than lust."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna details the core philosophical worldview of the demoniac. They boldly declare (te āhur) that the entire universe is completely false or unreal (asatyam), having no moral or spiritual foundation (apratiṣṭhaṁ), and that there is absolutely no God or Supreme Controller (anīśvaram). They conclude that life is just generated from the random, physical union of male and female (aparaspara-sambhūtaṁ), and that the entire cosmic manifestation has no higher purpose or cause other than base lust and desire (kāma-haitukam).
