Ch 15Verse 12
Adhyāya 15 Shloka 12

यदादित्यगतं तेजो जगद्भासयतेऽखिलम् | यच्चन्द्रमसि यच्चाग्नौ तत्तेजो विद्धि मामकम् || १२ ||

yad āditya-gataṁ tejo jagad bhāsayate 'khilam | yac candramasi yac cāgnau tat tejo viddhi māmakam || 12 ||

"The splendor of the sun, which dissipates the darkness of this whole world, comes from Me. And the splendor of the moon and the splendor of fire are also from Me."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna expands the vision of His omnipresence into the macrocosm. He tells Arjuna that the brilliant energy (tejo) situated in the sun (āditya-gataṁ), which illuminates the entire universe (jagad bhāsayate 'khilam), originates solely from Him. Similarly, the cooling splendor in the moon (candramasi) and the illuminating heat in fire (agnau) are also to be understood (viddhi) as His own personal energy (māmakam).
