Adhyāya 14 Shloka 22

श्रीभगवानुवाच | प्रकाशं च प्रवृत्तिं च मोहमेव च पाण्डव | न द्वेष्टि सम्प्रवृत्तानि न निवृत्तानि काङ्क्षति || २२ ||

śrī-bhagavān uvāca | prakāśaṁ ca pravṛttiṁ ca moham eva ca pāṇḍava | na dveṣṭi sampravṛttāni na nivṛttāni kāṅkṣati || 22 ||

"The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: O son of Pāṇḍu, he who does not hate illumination, attachment and delusion when they are present or long for them when they disappear;"

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna begins answering Arjuna's questions by describing the internal state of the liberated soul. Illumination (Sattva), attachment/activity (Rajas), and delusion (Tamas) are the inevitable waves of nature. The liberated person does not violently hate (na dveṣṭi) these states when they wash over the body and mind, nor do they anxiously long for them (na kāṅkṣati) when they pass.
