Ch 14Verse 15
Adhyāya 14 Shloka 15

रजसि प्रलयं गत्वा कर्मसङ्गिषु जायते | तथा प्रलीनस्तमसि मूढयोनिषु जायते || १५ ||

rajasi pralayaṁ gatvā karma-saṅgiṣu jāyate | tathā pralīnas tamasi mūḍha-yoniṣu jāyate || 15 ||

"When one dies in the mode of passion, he takes birth among those engaged in fruitive activities; and when one dies in the mode of ignorance, he takes birth in the animal kingdom."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Continuing the physics of reincarnation, Krishna outlines the destination for the lower modes. If one dies heavily absorbed in Rajas (passion), they are reborn among humans attached to endless fruitive work (karma-saṅgiṣu). If one dies completely degraded by Tamas (ignorance), they are reborn into the wombs of foolish, ignorant species, primarily the animal kingdom (mūḍha-yoniṣu).
