Adhyāya 13 Shloka 14

सर्वतः पाणिपादं तत्सर्वतोऽक्षिशिरोमुखम् | सर्वतः श्रुतिमल्लोके सर्वमावृत्य तिष्ठति || १४ ||

sarvataḥ pāṇi-pādaṁ tat sarvato 'kṣi-śiro-mukham | sarvataḥ śrutimal loke sarvam āvṛtya tiṣṭhati || 14 ||

"Everywhere are His hands and legs, His eyes, heads and faces, and He has ears everywhere. In this way the Supersoul exists, pervading everything."

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna uses striking, paradoxical imagery to describe the omnipresence of the Supersoul (Paramatma). He states that the Supreme has hands and feet everywhere (sarvataḥ pāṇi-pādaṁ), eyes, heads, and faces everywhere, and ears in all places. By possessing these universal senses, the Divine pervades and encompasses absolutely everything in existence (sarvam āvṛtya tiṣṭhati).
