"Constant and unalloyed devotion to Me; aspiring to live in a solitary place; detachment from the general mass of people;"

Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Continuing the definition of knowledge, Krishna adds three highly specific lifestyle and spiritual components. First, unalloyed, unwavering devotion (bhaktir avyabhicāriṇī) exclusively unto Him. Second, a preference for residing in quiet, solitary places (vivikta-deśa-sevitvam). Third, a natural detachment or disinterest (aratir) in mingling with the general mass of materialistic people (jana-saṁsadi).
