Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna contrasts the painful path of the impersonalist with the focused path of the devotee. He says: But as for those (ye tu) who completely renounce and dedicate all their actions and duties unto Me (sarvāṇi karmāṇi mayi sannyasya), who consider Me to be the Supreme Goal (mat-parāḥ), and who worship and meditate on Me (māṃ dhyāyanta upāsate) with exclusive, undivided yoga and devotion (ananyenaiva yogena)... (Sentence concludes in Verse 7).
