Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Krishna continues to outline the psychological markers of His dear devotee. He states: He by whom the world is never agitated, troubled, or put into difficulty (yasmān nodvijate loko), and who, conversely, is never agitated, disturbed, or triggered by the world or anyone in it (lokān nodvijate ca yaḥ). The person who is completely liberated and freed (mukto yaḥ) from the violent fluctuations of mundane elation/joy (harṣa), envy/anger (amarṣa), fear (bhaya), and anxiety/agitation (udvegair)—that specific person is also exceedingly dear to Me (sa ca me priyaḥ).
