Historical Context

The Direct Meaning

Continuing the description of the beloved devotee, Krishna adds: One who is constantly and perfectly satisfied and content in all circumstances (santuṣṭaḥ satataṃ), who is a dedicated yogi (yogī), whose mind and self are strictly controlled (yatātmā), and who possesses unwavering, firm determination (dṛḍha-niścayaḥ). One whose mind and intellectual faculties are entirely offered, surrendered, and dedicated unto Me (mayy arpita-mano-buddhir)—that specific person who is My devotee (yo mad-bhaktaḥ), he is exceedingly dear to Me (sa me priyaḥ).
